Design

We've had great success in collaborating with architects on the design work for our recent projects, and prefer this arrangement in working with our clients. The architect performs all of the general design work and construction drawings, and HarvestBuild provides specific design details relative to the natural building aspects of the project. The optimal working relationship is one in which our fees are included with those of the architect. This ensures efficient coordination between parties on all design considerations, rather than having HarvestBuild and the architect each working separately for the client. We're happy to work with the architect of your choice, or can recommend one familiar with our Naturally Passive House concept. Please contact us for more information relative to your project.

Consultation

We can provide guidance for any aspect of the natural building portion of your project. We’re happy to provide site assessments, review design drawings, offer planning and scheduling advice, assist with acquisition of materials, answer general questions, etc. Consultation fees are $75/hour plus expenses*.

Informal Workshops

Most of our clients prefer to do much of the natural building work on their project themselves, and usually enlist the help of family, friends, and volunteers as well. Our informal weekend workshops fit this scenario quite well. We participate by instructing the group in the various natural building tasks applicable to your project. Weekend workshops that cover stacking bales, preparing and stuffing straw/clay, and mixing and applying plasters are typical. We work with you in scheduling these weekends, allowing sufficient time between workshops for you to complete each of the applicable tasks. Fees are $75/hour plus expenses*, which normally translates to $1,500-$2,000 per weekend workshop. Two or three informal weekend workshops are usually appropriate for each Naturally Passive House project.

Construction

If you would like to hire a crew for the natural building portion of your project rather than doing that work yourself, we can recommend several subcontractor colleagues with extensive natural building experience who are also familiar with our innovative natural building systems. Please contact us for information on the appropriate subcontractor in your regional area.

Formal Workshops

We no longer teach formal workshops. Instead, we encourage you to get hands-on experience by being a volunteer during the actual construction of one of our Naturally Passive Houses. Please check the Upcoming Events page under the News section for the dates of future informal weekend workshops.

* expenses include mileage or airfare, meals and lodging (if required), and one-half travel time
