Kious Residence

Cleveland Heights, Ohio

HarvestBuild consulted on the natural building portion of this one-and-a-half-story straw-bale house, designed by Doty & Miller Architects. The home features a post-and-beam frame, our baling-on-the-edge infill straw-bale wall system, and earth and lime plasters throughout. During construction, HarvestBuild led several weekend workshops for bale raising, straw/clay, and plaster work. Our colleagues at Fox Natural Building assisted with the workshops and were the subcontractors responsible for completing the remainder of the straw-bale and rough plaster work. Another colleague, Marcia Wolff of Design Council, assisted the homeowners, Jan and Gus Kious, with the finish plaster work.
