Crown Point Arbor
Bath, Ohio
This straw-bale arbor serves as the gateway to a children's amphitheater at a community ecology center. HarvestBuild designed the arbor, and performed the majority of the construction. We also led a day-long workshop for a group of volunteers comprised of local professionals and civic leaders. The arbor features a locally-gathered fieldstone foundation, timber frame with our baling-on-the-edge straw-bale wall system, wood-shake roof, and earth and lime plasters.
Testimonial
"Mark Hoberecht provided us with excellent knowledge and leadership to make our straw-bale arbor project a complete success. His design work perfectly met our needs, and he was extremely helpful in the planning stages of the project. He was then able to facilitate our construction process utilizing a volunteer labor group. Mark got everyone involved in the project, which was not an easy task considering the fact that our work group included bankers, lawyers, and other professionals. Mark made the project fun and educational. He also exercised great judgment in reserving some tasks just for himself to ensure that the arbor would look attractive and be something that we all were very proud of. Members of the work crew still ask me today how the straw-bale arbor has held up and tell me how much fun the project was to be involved with. Without Mark's expertise, the project would have never happened."
